Birth of Edward, older son of Edward IV and his queen, Elizabeth Wydeville in Westminster sanctuary. He succeeds his father in 1483 as Edward V but is never crowned, being deposed instead by his uncle, Richard duke of Gloucester, who becomes Richard III.


Execution of Humphrey Stafford, duke of Buckingham. Buckingham had originally been supportive of Richard duke of Gloucester’s move to depose his nephew, Edward V, and take the crown, but later led a rebellion against him.
