Chancellor George Nevill, Bishop of Exeter, addresses a crowd of some three of four thousand in St George’s Field in London, setting out the legitimacy of the claim to the throne of Edward earl of March (Duke of York since his father’s death at Wakefield). The crowd “acclaimed him and expressed their wish to have him as king” (Charles Ross, Edward IV p31). This news was then carried to Edward at Baynard’s Castle.
