  1. Jill Diskan says:

Question about Nevills of Middleham. In any of the books I’ve read about the Plantagents, and I have a collection of about 50 books, I’ve never seen Nevill spelled without the ‘e’. So, I’m curious as to the source of your spelling – did you discover this spelling somewhere in all the research you did?

    • anevillfeast says:

Hi, Jill. Spelling in Middle English was a bit fluid, so it’s difficult to go by contemporary spellings for names. I’ve seen Nevill/e spelled so many different ways in contemporary documents, so a modern choice is, to some extent, going to be arbitrary. As to my e-less choice, that’s driven largely by the way the modern lords Abergavenny (direct descendants of Ralph Nevill) spell their surname. Hope that helps!

  2. Lila Rhodes says:

I give the Wydevilles a double L and an E, but the Nevils get as little as possible.

  3. Lila Rhodes says:

I award the Wydevilles two L’s and another E but the Nevils get only necessary letters.

Hi sir I just wanted to say thank you for all of this great material. I am a huge fan of the wars of the Rose’s era, and it’s so hard to find many contemporary records of that time (I guess because the country was in such turmoil). But i look forward to buying and reading your books and all of your content because like I said I can not get enough of it.

Thank you so much, Kevin. This blog has been wound down for a while now as I was quite exhausted when I finished all the research and the book. It might leap back into life one day but I’m not sure when. I wish you all the best!
